If you’ve ever tried to plan a trip thousands of miles away from where you currently live – you might relate to how I felt when I first started planning our trip to Iceland + Italy a few months ago!! I had no idea where we should even begin to look to stay; (Airbnb for the win!!!) even though I had been to Italy a few times. I knew where we wanted to visit, but lodging wise I was clueless.
SO, I can only imagine what it would be like to plan your wedding oceans a part!!! Ty and I planned our wedding a state away from where we lived and that was hard!! Luckily our venue was in my hometown so I knew the area well enough and we were still able to visit our venue as often as we liked over a weekend trip home!!
Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular. Brides are becoming more acquainted with idea of making their dream wedding an experience to be enjoyed by them as well as their guests. Going against tradition and doing things differently is definitely “on trend” in the wedding industry right now and we’re LOVING it!! (Like a non-traditional wedding exit for example!!)
Italy is by far one of my favorite countries and I have always dreamed of seeing the countryside of Tuscany!! Little did I know when I was booking our Airbnb, that we would actually be staying at a wedding venue. I literally couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful a wedding would be with the vineyard views that went on for miles, the way the sunset perfectly behind the frame style tent and even how perfect a cocktail hour would be around the pool!! As soon as we left to head on to Venice, I emailed our host and asked her if the apartment was actually connected to a wedding venue and she confirmed that YES it was!!! SO amazing!!!
The venue is called Villa S. Andrea. It is situated right in the middle of a vineyard and an olive grove. There is a catholic church right on the property which is accessible to couples who want to get married there and then have their reception up on the hill! The church can hold up to 40 people, seated!!
The church is nestled in the corner to the left of this photo!!
The Podere Montelodoli farmhouse is about half a mile from the church on top of a hill surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The house has been carefully restored and now contains six apartments (we stayed in one of these apartments!!)
Montelodoli is surrounded by spacious gardens, a pool, a stone barn with a kitchen, bathroom and a large dining/meeting room. There is a frame tent already set up for wedding receptions that can hold up to 100 people. The Podere is available to be booked starting at 3PM on the day of your arrival through 11AM on the day of your departure!!
The 6 Montelodoli apartments can host up to 6 people each (depending on the apartment) with 2 apartments being handicap accessible!!
Villa S. Andrea is super accommodating to all outside vendors and are happy to help with any other tours + sightseeing of the area for your guests!!!
While all of this sounds amazing, I’m sure you’re all wondering how much it actually costs!! It’s about 3,500 USD with a two night minimum running May 1 – September 30 2017-2018!! This includes the apartments for two nights, use of the gardens and pool, the stone barn and tent for the reception and final cleaning!!
I asked Trevor before we left if he didn’t mind grabbing some drone shots of the property for me and I’m so glad he did!! Ty put together this quick little film so you can see more of the area from above!! The first part of the film is where the Catholic Church is and the area where the photos above were taken!! When the cyprus trees start coming into the shot is where the apartments are and you’ll see the tent for the reception!! The stone barn is also in the back corner (as you can see if the cover screen grab)!!
The sunset is absolutely beautiful here!!
This is the stone barn where the kitchen is!!!
I LOVE this arbor!! It would be the perfect place to have your ceremony!! The right picture is the backside of the stone barn!!
This last photo is at the end of the drive!! You can see the apartments off in the distance on the left side of the picture!!
So there you have it!! I never knew that I would stay at a wedding venue in the heart of Tuscany and not actually be shooting a wedding there!! It’s so crazy how things work out!! But if you’re planning a Tuscany wedding, you have to check out Villa S. Andrea!! I can’t recommend it enough!!
