If you’re a wedding filmmaker, you know that we capture a TON of footage throughout the year. Managing all this data can be tricky for a few reasons. Not only do you need to make sure all that valuable data is backed up and safe in case of a hard drive failure, but you also need a system that is fast enough for you to edit off of without slowing down your editing workflow.

BUT even if you manage all that throughout the year, now you’ve reached the end of the year and everything is delivered and out the door. The question becomes, well now what do I do with all this footage? Do I delete the footage? Do I just buy a bunch of new expensive hard drives and start fresh every year?

Over the past 5 years, I’ve developed a system that tackles all these video specific issues, and I think is pretty awesome. In this video, I walk you through my entire system that I use for editing and archiving throughout the year, but then I’m also going to show you what I do at the end of every year to make space for the upcoming year.
