Ty and I got to celebrate with Bobby + Monica this past weekend at Stone Tower Winery and it was the best! If you’ve been following along with me (Ash) on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a new thing that we’re trying this season with each wedding that we shoot!
One of our big goals for the year is to level up our story telling! And to do so, we’re looking to hone in on specific pieces of our couple’s stories and their relationship together, and make those details come through in their film! It’s been such a fun challenge and has pushed as filmmakers so far this year and we’re loving that!
With Bobby + Monica’s story, we knew that they had met on OK Cupid. When they met for their first date, they met on a street corner in DC before heading out on their date. They later got engaged on that same street corner. SO, we knew that places are special to them. So, we looked to highlight their venue and the details they invested in to make their day special to them because now, Stone Tower Winery will be special to them too!
Monica described, their story as an Irish Catholic boy meets Chinese Jewish girl and their wedding day would highlight some Cinco de Mayo festivities (because that was their wedding date!). So we looked for unique ways to highlight their diverse backgrounds in their coming together as husband and wife – along with the Cinco de Mayo flair!
And finally, they told us multiple times that some of their favorite films of ours were the upbeat ones! Which means we quickly learned that these two are fun and LOVE to have fun together! So we looked to capture that true essence of them.
But like any good film, there’s had a plot twist! I don’t think they anticipated how emotional they both would get at different points throughout their wedding day – and we didn’t either! But, I think that’s the beauty of a wedding. Once you’re in the moment, it feels very surreal and the emotions of that can definitely get to you. Those moments, ended up being some of our favorites because they showed a different side of them and how much they love one another!
You’ll see some of these story building pieces in their sneak peek, but we can’t wait to share their full story in the wedding film soon! Enjoy!
