Next up on our double header wedding weekend was Brendan + Lauren’s wedding in Fredericksburg, VA at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill! This was our first time shooting there and we loved that the owner, Ed was around throughout the day! We got to chat with him a little bit about how the venue came to be, the history of the area and what he hopes it to be in the future! That was seriously such a treat for us and so rare to see the owner around on a wedding day!
Lauren told us that they had chosen the Mill to be their wedding venue because they felt like it reflected their character as a couple – it has a lot of charm, it’s walls hold a lot of stories, and it has a welcoming + comforting vibe! If you know them, you that’s true of them!! And just by walking on the property, we could feel all those same things about the venue too!
Brendan and Lauren’s meeting is serendipitous in a way – considering they both grew up continents a part! Brendan traveled to the US from Australia in 2012 to volunteer on the Obama campaign in Pennsylvania. Lauren was working on the campaign in Virginia. While in Virginia, Lauren became good friends with another Australian, James. After the campaign, Brendan and James both decided to stay in the US. Brendan helped James get a job at the company that he worked for. Now that James was staying in the US, a housewarming party was definitely the next order of business! Insert Lauren and Brendan’s meeting – at the housewarming party! Brendan likes to say that he “helped James find a job, and in return, he introduced him to his wife!”
When we asked Brendan and Lauren to pick one word to describe them as a couple they said “playful.” We immediately knew that their film was going to be so different than any other film that we’ve ever shot and we were SO excited!! Sometimes we have to really work for our couple’s personalities to come through in their film. Because, if you’ve ever been in a wedding, you know that sometimes it can start to feel like just one thing after another to simply “get done” so that you can move on to the fun party at the end of the night! But, in Brendan and Lauren’s case, they were so uniquely themselves no matter what all day! Even with the extreme heat that resulted in lots of sweating and the evening rain storm that rolled in before their reception. They didn’t waver. They were still the fun-loving couple, that loves their people, loves to laugh, and simply just loves being together! And that’s what we love about them! Enjoy this fun sneak peek from their unique day! We can’t wait to share their final film with you!!
