Nick and Katherine met in college. They had both signed up for a week long Spring Break service trip to Nicaragua with Virginia Tech’s Orphan Fund. They were randomly placed in the same small group on the trip which allowed for the opportunity to get to know one another pretty well that week! Their friendship that initially started that Spring Break, continued back home on campus where eventually, they became a couple!
Fast forward a few years to July 16, 2016. They both knew that marriage was the next step that they wanted to take in their relationship. Katherine’s only request about getting engaged was that Nick ask for her parent’s blessing, have the proposal on camera, and include both of their families in the surprise!
Nick, knowing Katherine really well, knew he had to propose to her in a place that wasn’t super out of the ordinary. So, he planned for them to go to dinner with Katherine’s family at Bethesda Country Club – totally not out of the ordinary! Shortly after they had finished eating, Katherine’s Grandma asked her if she could help her walk to the back patio because she thought she had seen an old friend walk by. Once they got out there, the “friend” was no where to be seen and instead Nick (who had slipped away from the dinner table as well) was standing amongst white twinkly lights, flowers in hand, surrounded by posters full of the two of them from the past five years. As Katherine walked towards him in shock, she glanced back over her shoulder and saw not only had her family followed her outside, but Nick’s family was there too! Nick got down on one knee and asked Katherine to be his forever – she said YES!
And their wedding day took us all back to the very place where Nick asked Katherine to be his wife – Bethesda Country Club! Their day was full of so many meaningful moments! Not only did they get married in the same church that Katherine’s parent’s were married in, they also wrote the most beautiful notes to one another and shared the sweetest first look before their ceremony.
